Chris Sgaraglino is a software engineer, creator, maker, fabricator, photographer, and model railroader whose work combines software, electronics, embedded systems, fabrication, and hands-on problem solving.

Through Widow Creek Railroad, he develops compact, interactive railroad projects focused on meaningful switching operations, modular construction, and modern technology. His current work includes Creekside Timber & Milling, RAILS, the Railroad Awareness, Intelligence & Logistics System, and IRROD, the Interactive Railroad Operations Dispatcher.

These projects use Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers, sensors, sound, lighting, software, 3D printing, laser cutting, and custom fabrication to create railroad experiences that listen, respond, and engage the operator while keeping the human holding the throttle in control.

His approach to model railroading is rooted in the idea that a railroad does not have to be room-sized or take decades to become useful or enjoyable. Small, modular railroads can still provide meaningful operation, experimentation, and interaction while serving as practical platforms for developing new ideas and technology.

Beyond model railroading, Chris has more than three decades of experience in software and technology, along with work in photography, video, fabrication, outdoor recreation, and technical education. His projects are driven by curiosity, practical experimentation, and a desire to understand how things work, build useful solutions, and share what he learns along the way.
